‘Ballers’ season 2, episode 7 preview: Spencer’s secrets; Charles’ new plan

There are a couple of things that we continue to find interesting about HBO’s “Ballers,” and one of them is that they do continue to strive for authenticity in every way that they can. Why else would you have a guy like Rashard Mendenhall on the show? The former NFL running back has been in the writers room from the first season, but next week’s “Everybody Knows” is the first time in which he is listed as a co-writer. That’s a cool opportunity for him, and we’re excited to see what he and Zach Robbins have come up with.

For the time being, we can tell you at least story-wise what is coming up, courtesy of the attached synopsis below:

“Spencer (Dwayne Johnson) scrambles to stay ahead after Andre (Andy Garcia) makes a surprise visit to the office. Joe (Rob Corddry) discovers the skeletons in his partner’s closet. Ricky (John David Washington) tries to make amends with Dennis (Robert Ray Wisdom), as Charles (Omar Benson Miller) plots to keep Ricky in Miami. Travis (Adam Aalderks) confides in Spencer during a talk-show appearance.”

While none of these stories are altogether surprising based on where we are in the story right now, we just hope that they continue to find some interesting new wrinkles as time goes on. For example, when Charles got the new job within the Miami front office, we admit that our first thought was not necessarily Ricky getting an opportunity to stay in Miami. Yet, their history together could prove valuable in making this happen.
