‘The Leftovers’ season 3 spoilers: ‘Manhattan’ actress lands mystery role

The third and final season of “The Leftovers” is in the process of filming, and given that this is HBO and it is also executive producer Damon Lindelof, you really cannot be altogether surprised at the notion of the show keeping almost everything under wraps.

Heck, we’re glad to even have some further news to report in terms of casting. According to Deadline, “Manhattan” actress Katja Herbers is going to recur heavily over the third season … and for the time being, that’s really all that we can say.

Even though the end of the series may be near, we are looking towards a fairly blank landscape with production heading to Australia. Being strangers in a strange land has been a theme of this story for Kevin Garvey in everyone else from the beginning. In the first season, they were still coping with the mere fact of the Departure. Meanwhile, in season 2 it was a journey to see if there was something that could come out of being in Miracle National Park, a place where there was a hope for peace and a life without all of the reminders of what was. Instead, it turned out that the town of Jarden was a sitting duck for the Guilty Remnant.

How the series ends remains anyone’s guess, but judging from past comments Lindelof has made, the one thing you can expect not to have is answers in terms of the Departure’s origin. That was never the point of this show; this is more about piecing together the aftermath.

The third season will premiere at some point in 2017.
