The ‘X Factor’ UK – ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ rivalry is beginning already
Sure, neither “The X Factor” nor “Strictly Come Dancing” are on the air just yet, but that’s not stopping the rivalry from continuing to be just that … at least from the vantage point of the singing show.
Speaking in a new interview with The Sun, Louis Walsh (who is returning to the singing show as a judge after one year off) made it clearly precisely what his qualms were with the celebrity dancing show, which has routinely throttled “The X Factor” in the ratings for the past couple of years:
“Listen, I watched Strictly last year. I found it boring. I got bored after a while. It was like, ‘Oh god, who are they and what are they doing?’ The X Factor is the most talked-about show on TV – everyone talks about The X Factor, no-one talks about Strictly.”
If we were to offer up some sort of personal rebuttal to what Walsh is saying here, it’s this: Who cares whether or not people are talking about “The X Factor” more? Television is a numbers game, and the show with the majority of the viewers is going to be the bigger hit of the two. While we watch the singing show with regularity and would choose it over “Strictly” any day of the week, they do need to get over their obsession of the “competition” that is present between the two. We just don’t see how continuing to be so transfixed on what’s going on here really does them any good.
