‘The Late Show’ host Stephen Colbert could go live on election night for Showtime
Stephen Colbert has shown a certain willingness to go live to cover major events during the 2016 Presidential election. He’s done that for both conventions with “The Late Show” on CBS, and there are plans in place for him to do so during some of the debates.
So could he go live on election night later this fall … and for a different network, no less? While it may sound rather strange, there are some plans in place that could actually lead somewhat towards this happening. Speaking at the TCA Summer Press Tour, Showtime President David Nevins suggested that the network and Colbert are both interested in doing a live event special to air while the votes are being counted on the premium cable network. It’d be a chance for Stephen to go a little bit harder than he can on CBS, and they’d create a really exciting event in the process.
If you are interested in fun, dynamic entertainment as a way to get your election results, we don’t know how you consider this to be anything other than tremendously exciting. (Of course, you could be a Republican, and in that case we’re not sure you are going to want to watch a show that could spend much of the night skewering Donald Trump.)
This summer has been for the most part great for Colbert, given that he’s at his best either talking politics or other newsworthy events rather than just doing the typical celebrity interviews where they are pushing people to check out their latest movie. We’ll see if this happens, and then we will be excited accordingly.
