Cable ratings: ‘Suits’ season 6 steady; ‘Mr. Robot’ declines in viewers

It has been some time since we’ve profiled the ratings for USA’s Wednesday night lineup, and there are some interesting trends that you really should be aware of.

First and foremost, let’s talk “Suits.” The Patrick J. Adams – Gabriel Macht series continues to be solid-as-can-be in its sixth season on the air, and stayed steady with a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Meanwhile, with 1.78 million viewers it added over 100,000 viewers from the most-recent show. (Remember, these are live+same day ratings, and don’t include a lot of other repeats / DVR / On-Demand data that eventually make up a better representation of how many people are actually watching.)

That reminder above is even more essential when you think about “Mr. Robot,” a show that posted a 0.3 rating last night to go along with a series-low 640,000 viewers (roughly). This is a series that is beloved by critics, but at the same time its numbers are now down more than 30% both in the demo and viewers from last season. That is a significant change from “Suits,” which so far is down 9% and 12.6%, respectively, in live figures. With this show in particular, we imagine that it is hard to fairly judge live ratings given that “Mr. Robot” fans are so computer-savvy. There may be many who watch at their own pace after the fact, or simply have it on their DVR.

One thing to remember here in particular is that the Republican and Democratic National Conventions have run the past two weeks, and that may be hurting live numbers especially hard for “Mr. Robot” given that the prime speakers are coming on at around 10:00 p.m. Eastern time.

Hopefully, we’ll get a fuller scope of how these shows are faring when we get further along in the season and there is even more live+7 data available. We do firmly expect both series to be renewed for additional seasons.
