‘Scandal’ season 6 not planned to be the last, says Shonda Rhimes
Is “Scandal” season 6 going to be the show’s last? That is certainly not something that has been announced or confirmed just yet.
On Wednesday’s edition of “Good Morning America,” host Lara Spencer proclaimed that per creator Shonda Rhimes we were nearing the end of the line. This comment came amidst a story about the Gladiators all returning to work, which prompted Rhimes herself to come on Twitter to say “I never said this was the final season of [the show]. Way to make me spit out my coffee.”
Not too long after that, Spencer herself took to the air to correct her mistake.
“[Earlier on the show] we said that this was the last season of ‘Scandal’. Shonda has weighed in, she just tweeted, and she said we made her spit out her coffee. My apologies. She said she has an ending in mind, but that ending is not happening this next season. So, thank you, Shonda … because as you guys know, it is my absolute favorite show. So correction: Ending in mind, but when that ending is happening we don’t know … So Shonda, thank you, I’m sorry I made you spit out your coffee.”
It’s certainly an interesting apology, since Spencer does a good job here of keeping the Gladiator fans all on her side as they prepare for the final season to start next year. Both she and Rhimes have since communicated, so everything now seems quiet on the “Scandal” front. Given what we already said about the premiere date, that could stay that way for quite some time.
