‘Turn: Washington’s Spies’ renewed for season 4, will be its last on AMC

It’s a case of good news and bad news today for the political period drama “Turn: Washington’s Spies.” The great news is clearly that AMC has opted to renew the series for a fourth season; however, the not-so-great news comes in that this will be the last for the show.

Then again, beggars cannot always be choosers, given that there was a rather-lengthy period of time in which it did not appear particularly likely that we were even going to get this renewal. The ratings for the show were not exactly through the roof, but there is a devoted audience here. Also, much like with “Hell on Wheels,” we get the sense that AMC likes to finish what they started, provided that their shows are far enough into their run for there to be that established following.

In a statement confirming the great news of the renewal, showrunner Craig Silverstein offered up the following message:

“I am so pleased to be able to bring the story of the Culper Ring to its epic conclusion, at the point where the revolutionary war ends and the great American experiment truly begins … This series has been a joy to work on thanks to Barry Josephson, Alexander Rose, our sexy writing staff, brilliant crew, and dream team cast. I am also thrilled to continue to work with AMC, who had the passion and courage to put Turn: Washington’s Spies on the air and support our effort. I eagerly look forward to our future adventures together.”

Obviously, the most important thing that comes with this renewal is that it will give the necessary time to craft that proper ending. In learning about it prior to production, the writers can frame their stories with this in mind rather than having to change things up at the last minute.
