‘Beauty and the Beast’ season 4, episode 8 review: Old-school meets new-school
Even though we are in the final season of “Beauty and the Beast,” we have to admit that there was a big part of Thursday’s episode that felt like it was in season 2 or 3. After all, a key component of the story revolved around Vincent, still hiding out and on the run, having to take on an undercover role in a way that turned south in dramatic fashion. Cat ended up having to be involved in stopping things physically than she’s had to for most of the season, we had a notable guest star in AnnaLynne McCord, and there was some natural jealousy that formed between our main couple over his cover.
Yet, at the end of the day, the two managed to at least figure things out enough to close out the hour in bed. There’s hope for the future! Yet, we’re not altogether sure we can say that there was a heck of a lot resolved here. Vincent is still having to hide from both the DHS and also the beast bounty, and there is only so much that Catherine and the rest of the team can do at one time. They’re all going to have to get creative to find the happiness they’ve been so desperately seeking.
On the JT / Tess front, we consider the story tonight a wake-up call for the former as he realized that sooner or later, his ex will move on unless he puts forth the time to get her back. He may not know everything that he is looking for, but in the process he doesn’t have to push her away.
In the end, we’d argue that the biggest flaw in the final season remains the lack of a really notable villain a la Gabe at the end of the first and second season. Everything else is fairly true to form for the series; it’d make little sense if you were tuning in now for the first time, but if you’ve enjoyed the journey to date, you probably enjoyed this, as well. Grade: B.
