Emmys 2016: Nick Cannon, ‘Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,’ ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ top remaining reader picks
This is our final article for our 2016 Emmy poll results, and for the sake of this one, we are talking about a few different categories that are super-important, but at the same time, really didn’t fit anywhere else since they’re not about acting. These are three categories that don’t often get a ton of publicity, but remain definite favorites for us when it comes to overall subject matter.
Over the past month, fans from all over the world have been voting for some of their favorites from our list of personal nominees; these are the results. The full list of nominees will be announced on Thursday.
Reality Competition Series – “RuPaul’s Drag Race” took this one, and it was a fairly close vote for it. It would personally be rather great to see it take this award home, if for no other reason than that it’d represent a sea change from typical voting patterns for this often-dull category.
Reality Host – With about 10% of the voting edge over Tom Bergeron, Nick Cannon took home victory here. Cannon is someone who really hasn’t received much in the way of due love for this show, though you could also make a case about the show itself.
Variety Series – With a whopping 68% of the vote here, “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” was declared the winner here. The truth here is that we could easily see him dominating the actual Emmy voting this year sans Jon Stewart by an equally large margin.
