‘The Fosters’ season 4, episode 3 review: Callie goes undercover; Brandon plays protector

Fosters -The Fosters” is still a show in recovery mode. With the events that took place over the first two episodes of the season, it’s hard to expect them to be doing anything different.

For Callie, for example, she took advantage of an unfortunate suspension tonight to just not be herself for a while. She met a guy while out, pretended to be a college student named Cameron, and tried to escape from all of the chaos in her life. It was a diversion, and one that maybe she will eventually repeat. For now, though, it was a brief escape.

Meanwhile, Jesus and Mariana handled everything that transpired in very different ways. For him, he decided to get into a casual sex relationship, which led to him getting tested just in case. Now, he has an “exclusive friends with benefits” relationship, which sounds a lot like dating but who are we to say? Mariana is strictly trying to just keep her head above water in the wake of what happened, and that includes bullying to the extreme. Lena and Stef may have done their best to protect the school, but at the same

The storyline for Jude meeting pastor’s son Noah was sweet. For one, he seems to be a very different character than we’ve met, and in the age of being super-cynical when it comes to religion, it’s nice to see a somewhat more positive take on Christianity.

Finally, we turn to Brandon, who for now is handling the pressure of practicing, living with Cortney, and caring for her child. We know this could push him too far soon, but it didn’t tonight as he even stood up to the child’s father.

As a whole, this episode of “The Fosters” was transitional. While it was entertaining, at the same time we would not say it moved any mountains other than Mariana getting that phone call from Nick in the closing minutes. Grade: B.
