‘Hell on Wheels’ season 5, episode 12 video: Cullen and Mei’s crisis
The next new episode of “Hell on Wheels” is going to be coming up this weekend, and after sitting out last week’s “Gambit,” be prepared to see a great deal of Cullen Bohannon this time around as his relationship with Mei is put front and center.
The sneak peek signals more than anything else that what the two have built is already in grave danger, as fears start to bubble over in terms of precisely how much Chang knows about who she really is. Cullen has to plan accordingly, but the idea of the two of them separating is something that worries Mei greatly, given that she does want a life with Cullen and cares for her. Does he feel the same way? We do think that there is love present in his heart, but we don’t think Cullen really thinks out of love. At times, he thinks more with his own self-interest in mind, or in terms of what suits the railroad more than those he cares about. This is why Anson Mount told us last week that when Cullen tells Mei that he lost everything he cared about in his life, that was in his character’s heart a lie.
We don’t want to give anything else away about this episode, but we suggest you check it out live. It’s one of the more emotional ones that the show has aired this season, and it should help to lay a little bit of metaphorical track to get us to the golden spike down the road, and with that, the end of the series. There are only two left after this one.
