‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 7, episode 2 review: Who learned about Dr. Rollins, Mary Drake?

PLL -

We are only two episodes into “Pretty Little Liars” this summer, and the show doesn’t have any interest in waiting for some of the drama to come out.

Through much of Tuesday night’s new episode, the focus shifted away from the case of Hanna Marin’s disappearance, and instead transferred over to Alison DiLaurentis as she was trapped within a room as her condition started to worsen. Not only that, but Dr. Rollins was tormenting her, making her mental state worse and barring her friends from being able to see her. Mary Drake was in cahoots to a certain extent with him, but through this, what we learned is that she may not be on the same evil wavelength as him … notably, she thinks that he is taking some of his plan a little too far.

Luckily for the Liars, they may be starting to figure this out after Emily started to realize that Drake and Rollins were somehow connected.

Aside from this story … There was some bad news for Spencer this week as she realized that she was no longer getting to keep her job … and judging from how Caleb talked about their relationship, that may also be a thing of the past. Meanwhile, Liam deciding to take on the job of editor for Aria and Ezra’s book caused some significant friction when it comes to the way in which they viewed each other, and how their energy changed when they were around one another. This is all a little frustrating since it feels clear to us that Caleb / Hanna and Aria / Ezra are endgame, so we almost wish they would just hurry that along and get on with it as opposed to dragging it out.

All in all, we do appreciated the condensed way in which this episode unfolded; the pacing was outstanding, and that helps to make up for some of the super-obvious relationship trajectory. Grade: B+.
