‘Arrow’ season 5 spoilers: How Curtis Holt will stand out
Earlier this year on “Arrow,” we received some very-welcome news that Echo Kellum has been promoted to series regular. Given that we’ve been a fan of his ever since “Ben and Kate” got canceled far too soon, we’re glad to be seeing more of him here as Curtis Holt.
So how is the show planning on using him? Obviously there is a concern that he and Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) cover roughly the same space, given the two of them are both tech titans in one way or another. However, executive producer Wendy Mericle is doing her part to insist that this is not the case. Speaking on this subject to TVLine, she drew a pretty clear distinction:
“Essentially, if she’s software, he’s hardware … As he evolves into becoming Mr. Terrific in Season 5, one of the things we’re really exploring is differentiating them by having Curtis be more like Cisco on The Flash. We want him to be a bit more hands-on, a little more about building physical tech.”
The great signal here is that he is going to eventually become some sort of Mr. Terrific, which is great since there is never really any guarantee of that when you see someone sign up for the show. We really do like the energy this character has, so we imagine that from here, the challenge is finding a way to incorporate him while still keeping the tone of “Arrow” reasonably dark. We know that much of the push for season 5 is to make it more like the first two seasons.
