‘Game of Thrones’ season 6 finale: Natalie Dormer on Margaery’s shocking send-off
Can you believe that we have lost so many important characters in the “Game of Thrones” universe in just the past two episodes alone? We know the cast was getting a little massive, but we’ve recently said goodbye to such people as Ramsay Bolton, Wun Wun the Giant, Margaery Tyrell, Rickon Stark, Loras Tyrell, the High Sparrow, Maester Pycelle, King Tommen, and many others. Several important characters are now gone, but Margaery may be the one people are the most upset over.
In the end, if Margaery had the chance to really utilize her instincts, she probably would still be alive right now. She understood that something was awry with Cersei Lannister not showing up for the trial, but she wasn’t able to get everyone out in time before wildfire came and killed them all.
In speaking about her exit to Entertainment Weekly, Natalie Dormer makes it clear that she is happy with the way that the character went out, which was different than many others and showed off some of her character’s ultimate influence and power:
“It’s not an echo of anything you’ve seen in the last six years. It’s truly its own unique moment to tie up what’s been a unique storyline about what’s happened in King’s Landing over the course of Season 6. I thought it was an inspired choice … And it’s really interesting that I am given a moment of some vindication at the very end, which was the perfect way for Margaery to leave the show. She’s given a platform to say that she was right, as she always is. But because the power was taken from her, she couldn’t do anything about it.”
The only notable character now to carry on the Tyrell name is Lady Olenna, who at last sight was in Dorne, finalizing an alliance with the people there and Varys to support Dany once she arrives in Westeros. These people could help to ensure that House Lannister is defeated, and for Olenna, this may be her only form of revenge remaining.
