‘Saturday Night Live’ re-watch: Enjoying Adele spoof, ‘Star Wars’ auditions with Daisy Ridley, John Boyega again
Tonight, “Saturday Night Live” is replaying their episode hosted by Matthew McConaughey that first aired last November, and with that, it is actually a little bit ironic that the two videos that we want to revisit now actually have nothing to do with McConaughey as the host. They’re just funny in their own right.
Also, one of them plays very heavily off of the music video for the night in Adele.
1. Adele’s “Hello” spoof – When this first aired, it was one of the funniest things that we had a chance to see all season long given that it was super-current, absolutely relevant, and more so than anything else, roll-on-the-floor hilarious. After all, there really are not too many opportunities that we have to get into a sketch that mirrors a music video these days since so few of them are recognizable.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t really hold up that well because so many of the specific references, including that to the video itself, are somewhat dated. The same goes for Aidy Bryant saying that she wants to vote for Ben Carson. Remember when that was a thing?
2. “Star Wars” auditions – While there may be funnier iterations of this out there from many years ago, this is still a really fun sketch to go back and look at, whether it be getting to see John Boyega and Daisy Ridley in here to having a version of George Lucas by Bobby Moynihan who actually looks and sounds almost identical to him. also, Jon Hamm. You’re welcome, world.
