‘Arrow’ season 5 spoilers: ‘The Wire,’ ‘Walking Dead’ alum Chad Coleman cast in significant role
The guest cast for the upcoming fifth season of “Arrow” just got significantly more impressive.
As first reported by IGN, Chad L. Coleman, best known for his roles on “The Wire” along with “The Walking Dead,” has been cast in the recurring role of Tobias Church, “an imposing gangster looking to unite the various criminal enterprises in Star City under his own singular command.” This is an interesting role on paper, and we do like that the series seems intent on going back to its season 1-2 roots of having real people be significant threats more so than either meta-humans or people like Damien Darhk with magic. Sure, you could argue that someone like Barry could just run into Star City and annihilate him right away, so you gotta suspend belief a little bit!
While we don’t quite know too much about this character right now, that’s not stopping us from ringing the bell of this as awesome casting. Coleman is one of the best actors to ever appear in this world, and we know he can bring a lot of layers to the people he plays. What we really hope here is that Church is a little bit more of a bruiser, since this is not the sort of villain Oliver has faced since Brick back in season 3; in terms of Big Bads, the last one we can really think of is Slade Wilson, but we don’t know if Tobias fits that bill particularly just yet.
“Arrow” will premiere with new episodes on Wednesday, October 5 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time.
