‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 7 spoilers: First look at Nicholas Gonzales

The seventh season of “Pretty Little Liars” seems to be for the most part focusing on some of the characters that it already has, and we definitely understand that given that there are so many great recurring players past and present who fans really do want to see.

Now that we’ve said this, we’re rather glad that we are at least getting one newbie in Nicholas Gonzalez (see the first photo below via Entertainment Weekly), if for no other reason than that he brings a very different style and energy to the show than we have seen to date. Specifically, his character of Marco is not someone to be trifled with! Here is what executive producer Marlene King told the website about someone who may just be the savviest cop in Rosewood’s history (which, granted, may not be saying much):

“I told [Nicholas] that Mona and Spencer are probably the smartest of all the Pretty Little Liars, and he is their equal. He is the first cop that’s come to town who could compete intellecutally with those two characters … He’s coming in with really no bias toward the girls and no understanding of their rich history in this town and how much trouble they’ve caused and been in and the torture they’ve been under as well. He really comes in with an open mind and sort of fresh take on things.”

In some ways, it’ll probably be helpful for the Liars to have someone come in who can be a little bit more unbiased and focus on some things in a little bit more of a neutral light; however, at the same exact time you do have to remember here that there are plenty of reasons for the cops to be wary of them, and they have bent the rule of law on a number of occasions.
