‘Nashville’ officially renewed by CMT for season 5
There is no longer any need to worry about “Nashville” finding a new home. After a lengthy, rigorous campaign, the previously-canceled ABC show is going to be heading over to CMT in a deal deal that will also give Hulu access to the episodes the day after they air.
In a statement confirming the season 5 renewal, CMT president Brian Philips had the following to say:
“CMT heard the fans. The wave of love and appreciation they have unleashed for Nashville has been overwhelming … Nashville is a perfect addition to our evolving line-up of big music specials, documentaries and original series. We see our fans and ourselves in this show and we will treasure it like no other network. Nashville belongs on CMT.”
This may be one of the best statements by a network executive we’ve ever seen when it comes to giving fans something to celebrate, but also making it clear that on CMT, it will have a home that could keep it safe from danger for quite a long time.
Now that we’ve said this, there will likely be changes since this show may need to change its budget and a few other things in the wake of moving over from ABC. Still, at least this is a sign that you’ll continue to get the same series that so many people loved, and on a network, no less, known for celebrating country music like no other. There really was no better fit, and given that Hulu was already the streaming home, their involvement should be fairly seamless.
While we do see a ton of these “save X show” campaigns surface after upfronts, it is still relatively rare that one actually leads to another show getting picked up. Typically, we tend to see maybe one or two TV shows a year saved.

I am elated! Nashville is an amazing show with so much heart! It’s rare a show touches such a wide variety of audience, but this one has done that. I am estastic. I hope Connie Britton returns, it still unclear if she will. Also, Hayden may not join due to personal issues, which would be disappointing but understandable. Thank you CMT for hearing the fans and understanding the true value of this gem of a show!
