‘Game of Thrones’ season 6, episode 7 preview: The state of things for Natalie Dormer’s Margaery

Margaery -

The sixth season of “Game of Thrones” picks back up on Sunday with a story that seemingly is going to put the focus heavily on the Riverlands, and while we are going to see plenty of Jaime Lannister trying to navigate his time in this particular region, we’re also going to have a key storyline focusing on matters back in King’s Landing.

For example, what in the world is Margaery Tyrell really up to? At this point, we do like to think that we’ve seen enough of this character to really know that she is not someone who would give up lightly, and it’s with that we have a really hard time imagining that she in some way would throw in the towel in regards to allowing the High Sparrow to control King’s Landing. We think of her plan to team up with him and Tommen more like this: She didn’t quite know what would be done on the outside to save her, and she couldn’t rely on that. Also, she doesn’t want bloodshed, and while Jaime Lannister did have a plan of his own, there’s no telling if he would have been able to rescue her in one piece. This move brings her back to her husband, and keeps all of the pieces on the chessboard for now.

Also, the photo above proves that it is not exactly as though Margaery is completely separate from those she cares for. She embraces Olenna, and maybe these two (provided there are no watchful eyes around) will give us a further sense as to her true plan … if there is one. We just have a hard time accepting things the way that they are.

As a matter of fact, we would be surprised if the High Sparrow survives this season, mostly because we just cannot imagine a villain of his nature being a true cog in the series’ final endgame.
