‘House of Lies’ series finale: Prepare for Don Cheadle, Kristen Bell in Cuba
This weekend is going to be much more than the standard episode of “House of Lies.” It’s going to be so much more than the standard season, or even series, finale. This finale is the first episode of a scripted American TV show in more than fifty years to film in the country.
It’s a remarkable experience for much of the cast to have, given that this story will offer them up an opportunity to see and experience a new culture. In reflection, this also marks a chance for our characters to go out in a very different environment. Marty Kaan will be traveling there with much of his core team to take advantage of what are a wide range of business opportunities in the country. We know that there could be opportunities for Americans to travel there in the future; we know already that for Canada and many other countries, it also remains a key travel destination already.
Judging from the statement creator / executive producer Matthew Carnahan gave recently (per TV Guide), he knows being in the country is a rather big deal:
“Creating and running House of Lies has been a true dream gig, a creative apotheosis. Getting to work with heroes like Don Cheadle, Kristen Bell and Glynn Turman, breaking out amazing performers like Dawn Olivieri and the shockingly funny Josh Lawson…and then going out on the high note that is shooting in Cuba — these are all the kinds of reasons I got into this business in the first place.”
Hopefully, this episode gives closure to characters like Marty, Jeannie, and Doug in addition to being in the super-cool setting. for any series finale, you do want to see the variety of goals ultimately accomplished.
Now, let’s prepare to say farewell. So long, “House of Lies.” You’ve certainly been a crazy show to experience, largely because you’ve been so bold, so wacky, and offered up a very different take on competitive big business.
