Teen Choice Awards 2016: Could Keegan Allen, Tyler Blackburn, or Ian Harding win Choice TV: Drama Actor?
In the corner of the universe where the Teen Choice Awards lie, there seems to be two networks more so than any other: Freeform and Fox. The latter broadcasts the Teen Choice Awards, so to continually see some of their shows up for nominations isn’t a surprise. They’re the ones promoting the show, and the majority of people who see these ads are Fox viewers more or less.
In our daily spotlight on the awards show, today we’re focusing on the category of Choice TV: Drama Actor. This is one that probably had a little bit of drama to it, at least provided that “Pretty Little Liars” is still as popular and as dominant a show as it has been over the years.
The nominees
Ben McKenzie, “Gotham”
Ian Harding, “Pretty Little Liars”
Jussie Smollett, “Empire”
Keegan Allen, “Pretty Little Liars”
Terrence Howard, “Empire”
Tyler Blackburn, “Pretty Little Liars”
Who will win – Harding is the reigning champion in this category, and given the amount of Ezra / Aria fans out there, he’s likely going to take it home once again. The only possible outlier here is that Blackburn wasn’t nominated last year, and he could split the votes and allow for someone like Smollett, who is popular with all crowds, to have a shot at taking the surfboard home.
Who should win – If we were basing this on strongest overall performance, we’d give it to McKenzie, who is coming off of the second season of “Gotham” and arguably the best work he’s ever done as an actor. Still, when it comes to the award show’s specific audience (we don’t really think of “Gotham” as catering to teens), we’d probably go more with the established pick in Harding.
