‘Nashville’ cancellation: Studio boss defends cliffhanger, still hoping for season 5

We’re still waiting to learn precisely what the future of “Nashville” on television is going to be, but if you were wondering at all if there was any regret over the shocking way in which the show ended on the studio’s part, it does not seem like it.

Speaking in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate TV’s chairman Kevin Beggs makes it very clear that leaving the fate of Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) up in the balance is something that they had planned for some time, and to purposefully present something that was neater and happier for the sake of making everyone happy would go against what the show has been:

“The ending we ran was the ending always envisioned for this season,” said Beggs. “These things are crafted over weeks and months. In our estimation, to go with a quickly assembled too-easy wrap-up is more of a disservice to the fans who have invested four years in this great cast and these great stories. And there’s more stories to tell.”

While neither Beggs nor anyone else is giving much in the way of specifics regarding what could be coming up net for the show, the reality still here is that there is pretty rampant interest when it comes to picking it up for more. Ultimately, this is probably just a case of finding the right financials and getting the right people behind this at another venue. It’s a tricky proposition and TV revivals are rare, but we do think “Nashville” has a decent shot.
