‘Homeland’ season 6 will take advantage of ‘unusual’ time in Presidency

There are a number of things that make “Homeland” distinguishable from the majority of the other television options out there, but to us, one of its greatest assets is its unique ability to take advantage of the era and things that are presently happening. We’re going to see some of that play out further during the sixth season, when the entire story is going to take place during a very specific, and powerful, point in history.

Speaking on this subject to TV Guide in a new interview, executive producer Alex Gansa passed along the following message:

“The whole season takes place between Election Day in November and the inauguration of a new president in January, during this strange and interregnum where a very fragile transfer of power takes place between the outgoing president and the incoming president-elect … There is this strange period in America where there are 72 days when it’s not exactly clear who’s in charge, and there is a new president that needs to be educated on what it means to be president. … It’s a dangerous time in our democracy.”

Hopefully, this show will also introduce some other compelling twists to go along with this, and while similar to reality, contain some candidates who are a little bit different than the ones playing out in the current news cycle. Personally, it feels at present like we’ve seen and heard enough about Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, and Bernie Sanders to last a lifetime, and the same goes for parodies or alternate versions of them. We’re not getting political here; we’re just down for some fresh takes.
