‘Limitless’ canceled officially by CBS; no season 2 on another platform
Alas, it looks like “Limitless” does have a limit when it comes to how long it’ll stay on CBS.
Today, it was announced by executive producer Craig Sweeny that after some attempts to bring the show to a new home, it is officially closing up shop and not getting a new home. At upfronts a week ago, the network said that they were talking with other suitors about acquiring the show for new episodes, but this pursuit has apparently ended.
At the moment, we may actually say that “Limitless” is the surprise of the season in terms of a show not coming back. Its ratings were not magnificent by any means, but they were also not terrible. The show got off to a very strong start, and behind the scenes, it benefited very much from having the movie’s star in Bradley Cooper on board as an executive producer.
In the end, what happened here seems to be mostly a direct result of the fact that the ratings fell at the wrong time, and while they were good enough to probably be worthy of another season, they weren’t so great so that another studio out there would want to jump all over a show that would be from an outside studio, meaning that there would be fewer profits than there would be for something that they produced themselves.
So alas, this is us closing the door on “Limitless,” a show that did have quite a bit going for it, but ultimately just suffered the same fate as many others: Not enough viewers.
