‘Empire’ season 2 finale review: Rhonda, Anika battle it out

Tonight’s “Empire” finale certainly started with quite the epic cliffhanger, as the life of one Jamal Lyon was firmly in the balance. Yet, we were never that afraid that we were going to see him go.

Instead, what this episode brought us was the balcony fight to end all balcony fights, one that ended with one or two lives hanging firmly in the balance. Rhonda finally learned the truth about Anika going after her in the midseason finale (which at this point really was not much of a twist), and it led to the two having a huge brawl that caused the two of them to tumble thirty floors. Are they really dead? That’s what we have to wait to find out, but let’s just say that for the time being, we’re not entirely confident that they’ve made it. The writers are really going to have to get creative when it comes to justifying this one.

Oh, and did we mention that Lucious and Anika were the two getting married? This was a way to get around some of her new legal woes, but at the end of the day, Lucious could become a widower in record time, all things considered.

Also, how about this for one final reveal: Tariq and Lucious are half-brothers! Think of this as yet another game-changer, to go along with the idea of Lucious actually paying Freda’s legal fees despite the fact that she shot Jamal, who vowed at least at one point that he would stop with music in the event that his family did not stop their feuding ways.

In the end, this finale was certainly thrilling, and provided that you watch “Empire” for the juicy drama and the twists, this ending certainly satisfied that. Grade: B+.
