‘Survivor’ season 33: Premiere date speculation, hopes, and more

Thirty-three seasons is a long time for any show to be on the air. Sure, “Survivor” airs two seasons a year, but even still, we’re entering what would be the 17th year of the show on CBS. How is it that the show is still so strong? It’s a nice testament to the fans who continued to watch for so long, and also support the show through so many incarnations and twist.

It’s already been confirmed that the show will be coming back for season 33 Wednesday nights at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, so when it comes to that vantage point alone, nothing is really going to be any different. The same goes for it airing in late September. Given that every season is different, of course anticipate some different twists.

Here is something that really blew our mind when thinking about it earlier: The last time we had a 20-person, two-tribe cast of all new players with no major twist like old versus young or people living on the same beach was “Survivor: Samoa.” That’s almost 15 seasons ago! We had in there seasons that were close to that in “Redemption Island” and “South Pacific,” but they were a couple of elements off. The same goes for “San Juan del Sur” keeping up the whole “Blood vs. Water” twist.

We figure that we’ll have some more news on the new season tonight when the next season is formally announced, but we’re pulling for a 20-person cast with two tribes, and maybe a few small tweaks rather than anything earth-shattering. “Kaoh Rong” has been a solid season, hurt mostly by a couple of dull medivac episodes where there wasn’t really much the show could do.
