‘Last Man Standing,’ ‘Dr. Ken’ renewed by ABC
While ABC has really had a massacre of their schedule over the past couple of days, there is some good news for a couple of shows buried in the rubble.
“Last Man Standing” – It seems like every year, there is some debate as to whether or not the Tim Allen series will return, but it always done. Despite it being one of the most under-the-radar shows on network TV, it continues to come back and we understand why. For Friday nights, the ratings are at least relatively decent, and it gives ABC stability on a night where some networks (we are looking at you, The CW) don’t have the same sort of stability.
“Dr. Ken” – The Ken Jeong series was a show that we certainly expected to come back, largely because of the amount of retention that it had after “Last Man Standing” on the network. Also, we think that both shows really benefit for the most part from fitting in the “family comedy” mold that has started to fade on some other networks. For one reason or another, ABC has really figured this out in a way that few others have.
For the most part, ABC’s comedy lineup, save for “The Muppets,” will be back for more. “The Real O’Neals,” “Fresh Off the Boat,” and just about all of its Wednesday-night lineup will also be back. We should get some more news regarding scheduling at the upfronts next week.
