‘Scandal’ season 6: Return date speculation and more for Kerry Washington – ABC series

Tonight, we are saying goodbye to “Scandal” for the time being with a finale that is probably going to contain more than a few surprising twists and turns.

For now, though, let’s talk about something else that is at present a mystery: The future of the show. We know that it has been renewed already for a sixth season, but one question still remains: When in the world will it be back? If you have not heard just yet, series star Kerry Washington is currently expecting her second child, and her pregnancy is likely going to delay the show’s premiere. Not only that, but the season will be operating with a smaller order as a whole.

If we were to guess, we’d say that the show returns at some point in midseason, that way ABC can air almost everything straight through without interruption. That’d probably be the best-case scenario than having to break it up into small little batches.

As for whether or not season 6 could be the show’s last, we do think that this is not a show that will last as long as another one from Shonda Rhimes in “Grey’s Anatomy.” This is one that doesn’t have as procedural a feel, and has a cast that is more concentrated. Also, there is only so long that a member of the Grant family will be in the White House, and after that, what becomes the main game of the series? It’ll already be weird enough if it lasts beyond Fitz being President.
