While we wait for ‘Supergirl’ season 2 news, Syfy greenlights ‘Krypton’ pilot

We’re not sure Superman has ever been more omnipresent than he is today. After all, how else do you try to process the news that we have another prospective TV series set in that world?

Today, Syfy announced that they have greenlit a pilot for “Krypton,” a show that is apparently set to “follow Superman’s grandfather – whose House of El was ostracized and shamed – as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.” Apparently, this means that this show is not able the noble gas.

Per Entertainment Weekly, here is what Bill McGoldrick, Executive Vice President, Scripted Content, for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment had to say:

“Krypton is one of the most iconic stories in the comic book universe … In the talented hands of David S. Goyer and the DC Entertainment/Warner Horizon Television team, this exciting Syfy project will take viewers back to Superman’s home to show how the timeless legend began.”

We would hope that this order would further convince CBS to order another season of their own “Supergirl” (via Warner Bros. TV) at some point soon, given that there have been discussions and negotiations for weeks now. If they don’t pick it up, it’s likely that The CW or someone else would given the popularity of the character and this franchise. Even a movie like “Batman v. Superman,” which received horrible reviews for the most part, still has made an exceptional amount of money at the North American box office.

Now that we’ve said all of this, it’s still not confirmed that “Krypton” is getting made. We’ll have to wait for a little while still in order to see what happens.
