ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8, episode 21 video: Stana Katic, Nathan Fillion, and an unusual body
As we start to get closer to the finale of “Castle” in just over a week, every sneak peek in one way or another feels like a “last” something. The one below for Monday night’s “Hell to Pay” could be the last in the familiar morgue with both Castle and Beckett, and it also could be the last sneak peek to feature Lanie. Tamala Jones’ exit at the end of the season hasn’t gotten the same press as Stana Katic’s, but it is important in its own right.
In the sneak peek below, Lanie stops by to pass along some information to Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic’s characters as they look at a rather unusual dead body, one covered in the sort of markings and stitches that you would expect to see in a Dan Brown ritual. It’s clear that whatever happened to this person had some religious undertones … or at least this is what the killer wants people to believe.
At one point during this episode, Castle will fairly stuck on the idea that the Antichrist may have been behind the killing, and knowing him, he’ll probably take some rather unusual steps in order to prove some legitimacy to his claims. We’re not exactly sure that he will be able to pull that off, bey hey, credit to him for trying, right?
One way or another, the end of this episode could help to set up the finale, otherwise known (sadly) as the last time we’ll see Katic on the show. There’s still no definitive word about if the show is returning, but we expect an announcement early next week.

You know that if this were 4 or 5 years ago Castle’s utter stupidity might have been funny as he pursued some inane story line such as this but let’s face it folks this type of thing has gotten old, totally nonsensical coming from a 40 year old adult and just plain stupid. If this were to happen in a series 9 (if there is one) and Beckett was not there to keep it grounded in reality it would be so inane as to be dismissed as having no amusement value whatever and off the air at the end of the first episode. Shows why that a season 9 would have to be reformatted so severely as to be so unrecognizable and to have no connection and continuity to the existing Castle that it should be renamed and recast to eliminate the personage now known by the name of Castle.

The lead is still Castle the writer. If it is reformatted to RC of S1,Ep 1, it could actually work quite well. That RC was impressively smart and bold. We’ve been given a chance to see the Esposito and Ryan clans and they can be interesting even more so when interacting with a multimillionaire.

Sorry Leo but I must disagree that the lead is still Castle the writer. The lead has not been Castle since about season 5. I use my no fail popularity gauge in this determination. Basically what it is is an iPhone that I play solitaire on while Castle, the series, is on the air. I play solitaire while Bozo, the clown, the class idiot, the 40 year old who believes in fairy tales, whose ego is so big that his back and arm stays sore from patting himself on the back and cut off the phone while Beckett, Lanie, Ryan and Espisito are on. It has gotten so bad that I have had to keep the charger plugged in to prevent power outage. Let’s face it Nathan has overplayed the role of Castle so much that it is not even funny enough to generate any interest let alone be hilarious.

ABC studio disagrees with your assessment and as they control the purse strings, your opinion is over ruled.

Enjoy Season 9, Leo. Like a few others, I am out. I did not enjoy Season 8 at all, but will see the story through to whatever end they give Beckett. And then…never again. And for the first time ever, I will not buy the DVD of the current season. My choice. Some fans like a ruggedly handsome frat-boy doofus who solves crimes (now just a fat frat-boy doofus). And some don’t. Good luck to ABC with whatever they do with this moving forward.

Yep, brilliant ABC, giving a fond farewell to a (once) very successful series by removing a lead character and her best friend and completely changing the dynamic. That’s a wrap! Again, enjoy every moment.
