‘Home Fires’ season 3: What are renewal odds for ITV’s Samantha Bond series?
Tonight on ITV, “Home Fires” is signing off the air with what is hopefully going to be a dramatic and emotional end to the second season. But is it the end for the series as a whole? That is something that remains to be seen.
What we do know going into the finale is that there is a public audience out there for the series, even if it is somewhat under-the-radar in comparison to many other shows that are out there on British television. It also features fine performances from Samantha Bond and others, and is precisely the sort of show that tends to be very popular among older viewers. Period pieces work well here, and PBS in America has already picked up the show for stateside airing. (The first season aired last year.)
So when could the network make a firm decision on the series’ future? We don’t think there is necessarily any hurry, given that these are only six-episode seasons and they don’t take an extremely long period of time to film. Also, there’s no guarantee that the show will be back at the same time, since there’s no firm obligation for it to be. It’s all a matter of making sure the show is commercially viable, and then also giving the creative people the time in order to make it the best show possible.
