‘Chicago PD’ spin-off ‘Chicago Justice’ may not be last for Dick Wolf franchise
On Wednesday night “Chicago PD” is going to air the spin-off pilot for “Chicago Justice,” and as crazy as it may seem, it may not be the last entry into a franchise that could have as many as five hours of TV on at the same time if you include New York-based “Law & Order: SVU.”
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, show guru Dick Wolf made it clear that he does have an idea for a fifth “Chicago” series, but he’s not saying precisely what it is right now. It’s also rather hard to necessarily think about what it could be, given that the whole objective for this franchise seems to be highlighting some of the local heroes to fight to make the city better. The most obvious one that we could think of here would be “Chicago Government” or something akin to that, where you would look at things from a more political angle. Casey is moving more into politics these days on “Chicago Fire,” so maybe in theory you could use that and base a whole show around that world?
Of course, we’re just speculating here, especially when you remember that NBC has not even officially ordered “Chicago Justice” as of yet. We just feeling very confident that it is going to happen based on the present state of things. All of the “Chicago” series have been successes for the network so far, and they also perform well in live+7 data and can be sold easily around the world. Why wouldn’t they want to milk this for everything that they can? Maybe there’s a risk of overexposure, but clearly they are not there yet.
If you missed it, you can head over here right now to get a further preview for “Chicago Justice.”
