‘Home Fires’ season 2, episode 5 review: More pain for Pat and Marek (a.k.a. blame Bob)
With just one episode of “Home Fires” to go after Sunday night’s new episode, we knew that there was going to be some major movement forward. Unfortunately, that did not cause us to be optimistic through much of this week that good things were going to happen.
For one, Bob was still around, and we’re not quite sure that there is a character on TV at the moment who is more loathed than he is. Pat is starting to find some happiness with Marek, but there was a clear fear that with Marek’s departure, Bob would find a way to throw her into further peril and depression.
Elsewhere in this episode, we got a chance to see a thing or two more about Nick’s own internal struggle, which in turn led to him getting down on one knee and proposing to Teresa. Was it shockingly fast? Certainly so, but as he made it rather clear to her, this is a “world of war.” Therefore, he may not have another chance. This could be interpreted by some as a sweet moment, and based on some of what we’ve heard already from ITV, you may not have to wait long to see what comes next for the two. Yet, at the same time, what does this mean for Teresa and Annie? Where does her heart truly lie? We liked the idea of them together, and they were the more established prospective couple
This episode had its fair share of tough moments (just as Sarah), but we assume that the proposal will be the pain talking point. Granted, Frances dealing with a factory closing is the sort of thing that could have sweeping ramifications moving forward. Grade: B+.
