‘Wet Hot American Summer’ returning to Netflix for ‘Ten Years Later’

For much of the past nine months or so following the release of the super-funny “Wet Hot American Summer: First Dance of Camp,” it was not entirely clear whether or not Netflix would ever make any more of the show. For one, it’s an enormous logistical challenge to get this cast together again; they filmed Bradley Cooper’s arc on the last Netflix series in a matter of days.

Somehow, though, it appears that all parties involved have figured something out, and today the streaming service announced that “Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later” will be coming at some point in 2017. The also released the pretty-funny announcement video below.

It may be some time before we know specifically who’s coming back, but we expect at least the majority of the names from the movie / “First Day of Camp” to return. If someone’s unavailable, it’s pretty easy to come up with some excuses as to what happened. Maybe they moved far away. Maybe they died. Maybe they’re trying to pretend that they are normal now. You get our drift.

Overall, our sentiment here is “supreme excitement.” While we know some feel “First Day of Camp” paled in comparison to the movie, we thought it was amazing. It captured the spirit of the film, and gave us so much more of this wacky world. There’s not that much in terms of great absurd comedy out there, and this continually finds new ways to shake things up and have people laughing.

Just to make it all the clearer that this will be amazing, David Wain and Michael Showalter will be back to write all of the episodes. Wain will serve as the director.
