‘Blindspot’s’ episode titles do matter — and here’s why

As someone who does follow episode titles closely (and often analyzes many of them with a fine-toothed comb), we’ve certainly had questions aplenty regarding “Blindspot” and their particular choice to use anagrams week after week. Many of them unscramble to reveal specific phrases, but other than that little gimmick (it’s like each title is one of Jane’s tattoos!), we haven’t really gotten much of the point … at least until now.

As executive producer Martin Gero makes it clear in a new interview with TVLine, there is something more than the writers are doing with these titles now, and eventually it will get them involved in the mystery:

“The first 10 episodes were just a fun thing we did, but from Episode 11 to Episode 23, that is actually a message to fans. As they figure it out, they can get involved in the Blindspot universe in a very first-person way.”

Spoiler alert: We personally believe that the message is probably not “be sure to drink your Ovaltine.”

If you’re really curious to get a head start as to what some of these titles really mean, the Wikipedia page for the show has the entire list along with what seems to be accurate unscramblings for many of them. There are still a few titles that remain unscrambled, so that gives you a chance to do a little bit of decoding work yourself. We don’t think this is going to blast open the entire Jane Doe mystery for the show, but it’s a bit of added fun for fans. It’s interactive, and it’s certainly more than what many other shows give us.
