‘Bones’ season 11, episode 11 reaction: Will Hodgins ever walk again?
We imagine that there were some out there in the “Bones” fandom who expected that when the show returned to see an almost immediate course-correction for the Hodgins character given the way in which there was a time jump between the end of the first part of the season and where we are now. Meanwhile, this is TV, and shows like to figure out ways for people to be cured of what ails them fairly quickly. Just look at what happened to a certain character on “Arrow” earlier this season, whose name we will keep quiet on here for the sake of ensuring that nobody gets spoiled.
As for “Bones,” we’re assuming that if you are reading this, you’ve already seen tonight’s episode and therefore know very well that the character of Hodgins was told that he would never walk again … and then proceeded to lie about it. While we suppose that anything is still possible within the world of the show, we do think that this signifies a very major battle is ahead.
In speaking a little bit more about this particular subject in a chat with TVLine, executive producer Michael Peterson explains why the character was so devastated, and then in turn what may have compelled him to lie that he was getting better when, in actuality, he was not:
“He was believing [that he would walk again]… He was hanging on to the fact that he could feel something. And then he finally gets this news and, at the end of the day, he’s a scientist. This is the doctor saying, ‘No. Those pains aren’t real. You’re lying to yourself. It’s time to accept it more or less.’ He wants to hope.”
The good news is that there is still plenty of time for this story to develop this season and maybe a miracle will happen.
