Finale Forecast: Looking at ‘Chicago PD’ season 3 and story possibilities
Over the course of “Chicago PD” season 3, we’ve covered quite a bit of ground. We’ve seen Lindsay and Halstead commit to a relationship, the end of Burgess and Ruzek, the beginnings of Burgess and Roman, and also Voight battling several demons from his past, including an epic arc involving his late wife that spanned multiple shows.
Is there a way to top all of these developments with the season finale later this spring? It’s a dangerous game to get into, trying to top yourself time and time again in terms of drama and edge-of-your-seat moments. Let’s examine in this latest entry in our CarterMatt Finale Forecast series as to whether or not it is smart for “Chicago PD” to go down the shock-value route, or if they are better off telling a smaller, more self-contained story.
What could happen – Judging on where we are in the story right now, we certainly imagine that things between Roman and Ruzek could bubble over. Do you really think that he is going to sit idly by and watch Roman with his ex? It’s not really in his personality. We’d imagine that the show would also give us a small development in the Lindsay and Halstead relationship before season 3 ends, and we’d continue to get some more hints that the “Chicago Justice” spin-off could be on the way. With that said, this episode will take place after the planted spin-off pilot.
Knowing NBC and knowing shows executive-produced by Dick Wolf, we’d imagine that story-wise we’re going to go into this guns-ablazing for a story that will stun, surprise, and probably leave you extremely nervous going into season 4.
What should happen – We’re going a little bit against the grain here, mostly because of our frustration over TV cliffhangers at the moment and network addictions to them. We’d almost prefer to see for “Chicago PD” at present an ending that is a little more muted and personal. Also, we’d like to see it be focused more on Hank Voight. Why not give Jason Beghe a showcase as his practices go under investigation, or have him consider his romantic future? He’s the beating heart of this show, and it could be time for him to take some steps forward in his life and consider the man he is becoming. Having a smaller finale could give this show some nice contrast versus everything else on TV. We also imagine that the show won’t lose any viewers if producers opt against a cliffhanger. Trust us: It’ll be okay.
