‘Arrow’ season 4, episode 19 spoilers: How Oliver, Diggle, and everyone else cope with death
It’s not easy dealing with death in the world of “Arrow,” even when it is a pretty common occurrence. You still feel the sting of going through it, and we imagine that there is also a lot of guilt that goes along with it if you think that a certain death was preventable.
Was Laurel’s preventable? Sure, in the sense that you could say that she never should have went along with the plan to go the prison … but it was extremely out of character for her not to. Meanwhile, you could say that Diggle never should have trusted his brother, but that is Diggle’s character to do so. He’s a loyal guy and he wanted to think that his brother was someone who could be saved. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
In the end we don’t see any character as being at fault for what happened, but they may not feel that way themselves. This is something that per ComicBook.com, executive producer Wendy Mericle discussed with the following message:
“We wanted to explore that and to really have everybody feel the impact of this loss because it is significant and we do feel like it is a game changer … And a very sad way in that we’re losing a beloved character, but also in the sense of it’s going to, unfortunately big moves like this will open up new storytelling avenues and will force our characters to rethink their decisions and to rethink their objectives.”
