‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Kate McKinnon, Gwen Stefani have fun with Peter Dinklage

SNL -We’re not sure when the last time was that we were this excited about a new “Saturday Night Live” episode. Maybe we have undue expectations as a result of it, but it doesn’t change the reality that we’re super-stoked to see what Peter Dinklage does as the hos of the show.

Dinklage is clearly someone beloved these days thanks to his work on “Game of Thrones,” but ever since “Living in Oblivion” and “The Station Agent,” we’ve been a fan of the work he brings to the table. He can do heavy drama without a problem, but he has a tremendous wit and charm about him that tends to translate well into comedy. That is why he will most likely do really well on this show

As for if he will avoid a ton of obvious “Game of Thrones” jokes, maybe the promo below is more or less getting them all out of the way. Both clips of himself alongside Kate McKinnon and musical guest Gwen Stefani are arguably the same, with the two of them asking him a seemingly-innocuous question about the show before they then turn things around and make it something completely silly. We wouldn’t be shocked if Gwen turns up in a sketch here or there, especially since her appearance is cross-promotion in some way with “The Voice,” even if she’s not on this current season or slated to be on the one in the fall. Just so long as it’s not shoehorned in anywhere and feels organic, we’re happy.
