‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7, episode 16 video: Check out new Ian Somerhalder scene

Friday night marks a new episode of “The Vampire Diaries,” and after waiting a few weeks, you are finally going to see in “Days of Future Past” precisely how the story has evolved in the years following Damon trapping himself in a coffin.

Things don’t exactly look too great for Ian Somerhalder’s character in the sneak peek below, given that he is staring Rayna right in the face, and she has already made her particularly-violent agenda clear. The only thing that seems to save him in this particular moment is that there does appear to be at least some sort of order to her particular brand of chaos, and that has her chasing some other priorities first and foremost.

So is Damon going to be willing to give up almost everything in order to save his brother Stefan? On the surface, this feels like a mostly-easy question to answer since it doesn’t quite feel like he has all that much to lose. Just remember for a minute or two here that he had put himself to sleep for years, and that it’s still more than likely decades until Elena comes back. This is not a guy who has a lot to look forward to immediately.

As a viewer of this show, though, you almost certainly do, especially since Somerhalder is taking on an extra role as the director for this episode. You’ll get to see plenty of him on the show, but then also at the same time his vision for it through his work behind the camera.
