‘Gotham’ season 2, episode 16 video: Ben McKenzie on Jim’s prison story

Jim GordonOn Monday night’s new episode of “Gotham,” we could be a story that is in many ways different than what we’ve seen so far. Based on the video below, “Prisoners” is going to be less about the number of characters that the show can throw on the screen at the same time, and more about the emotional resonance that comes with being in a place that is as terrible as Blackgate Prison.

To date, most of the prison scenes that we’ve seen in conjunction with this show have come courtesy of Arkham Asylum, and that is a very different sort of place. Here, nobody is treating you for anything. Instead, they may be doing more of whatever they can in order to torment you. This is something thing we see snippets of in the sneak peek below, and we also hear Ben McKenzie discuss more of what makes these particular scenes so challenging and harrowing for his character. Nygma set him up, and this is not a prison that is easy to get out of.

Will he be able to do it? Given that this is “Gotham” and characters do often figure out an escape route, probably. With that said, we have to imagine that this is not going to happen easily. Hopefully, we’ll get a little more in the way of insight in this before we get around to the end of the episode. Just be on the lookout for it!

As for one other tease, we certainly think there is more story to tell with Oswald and his supposed father Elijah Van Dahl.
