‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7: Ian Somerhalder dissects Damon / Bonnie dynamic
At the end of this past episode of “The Vampire Diaries,” Damon decided that he was really over everything in the world for the time being, and as a result of that, he shut himself off with one of the longest naps imaginable.
So where are we going to see the story go from here? Well, we know that he wakes up years in the future, and there are going to be many people enraged with him … especially Bonnie. At one point, these two were very close, but there needs to be some acknowledgement at this point that he hurt her with the decision that he made. The two had a bond, he broke it, and it’s understandable why she would be upset once he is back.
In analyzing this relationship further to TVLine, Ian Somerhalder describes it in a pretty perfect way:
“Bonnie gets consistently screwed over by this man … Like Stefan, she goes to great lengths to help him, and she just gets s–t on as a result of it. She really, really does. And she tries so hard to give him the benefit of the doubt because they’re bonded. There’s a bond there, and he does love her. She’s his best friend. She and Ric are really his best friends, other than his brother.”
In the end, we imagine that Damon possesses the charm to turn people with Bonnie and his brother around so that they are back on his side once more; the question is whether or not he really wants to go there, or is happy just moping for the remainder of his time on the show. Hopefully, it’s not the latter.
