‘Gotham’ renewed for season 3 by Fox

Here’s a little bit of a funny story to start things off: We spoke earlier today with “Gotham” star Sean Pertwee for an interview that is going to be hitting the internet tomorrow, and in it we asked about what the show’s season 3 chances were. He felt confident, but could not comment on whether or not a renewal was coming.

Well, it turns out that we now know for certain that the show will be back once more for 22 episodes. Fox confirmed the renewal on Wednesday, with network president David Madden saying the following in a statement:

“It takes a very special team to tell the tales of Gotham … For the past two seasons, Bruno, Danny and John have masterfully honored the mythology of Gotham and brought it to life with depth, emotion and memorable high drama. This incredibly talented cast has redefined these iconic characters for a new generation, and we couldn’t be more proud of this show.”

We’re thrilled for this renewal for a variety of different reasons, with one of the biggest ones simply being that this show has improved leaps and bounds since season 1. It started as a super-serious police drama with a few elements of comic-book lore here and there, and it has become a really fantastic show that combines both the police elements and Batman mythology. It feels like enough of a comic book for it to suit the source material, and we cannot wait to see what the producers do next with this super-interesting world.
