‘Faking It’ season 3 spoilers: One large tease of the story ahead
The third season of “Faking It” is going to be premiering on MTV Tuesday night, and it’s not going to take a whole lot of time in order to realize that this is a very different season than the ones that came before it. Amy and Karma are growing up as characters, and they also have quite possibly more challenges to work through than ever before. Sure, it was devastating when Karma learned the truth about Amy and Liam, but having Amy go away for an entire summer almost on a whim is completely different. To her, this was disregarding their friendship, even if Amy did it in order to get over some of the feelings that she had for her.
While we’re not going to give you any specifics when it comes to what will happen to the two characters this season, we do think that executive producer Carter Covington’s comments to TVLine do a great job of illuminating some of what the overall themes for the upcoming episodes are going to be:
“This season, the show really fulfills its mission, which is to be a show that discusses and presents really groundbreaking material. We have a transgender storyline that plays out in the latter half of the season, Lauren’s story about accepting herself is going to have more twists and turns, the Karma/Amy friendship is going to be challenged by a new character introduced in the second half of the season and a lot of their issues will be brought to the forefront. If fans liked the direction we were headed in, our Season 3 really takes it to another level. MTV has really encouraged us to swing for the fences.”
All of these relationships are important, and of course the story threads suggested by Covington here look and sound great on paper. To us, though, the real selling point of season 3 will be its humor, and unfortunately we’re going to have to wait until we really get into the season before we know how well that is accomplished.
