‘Once Upon a Time’ renewed by ABC; season 6 coming this fall

While ABC is not always so quick to announce renewals for many of their shows, they’ve always been fairly on the ball with “Once Upon a Time,” and that includes this year with the new announcement that the show is coming back for a sixth season on the air.

In a post on Twitter, co-creator Adam Horowitz confirmed this news by thanking “the most extraordinary fans ever” by helping to ensure that the show has a long life. While the ratings have not necessarily been a home run for most of this season, they’ve still been solid enough for the show to remain the biggest scripted drama for the network other than the ones executive-produced by Shonda Rhimes. With a new programming head over at the network, this is certainly a sign that this is a show that is still in the long-term plans … and we understand why. It has a strong DVR following, and it is extremely popular all around the world.

We’d be shocked if the order for season 6 is any different than the one that’s been there the past few years. New episodes are probably going to start airing in the fall, though there are still of course many more episodes in season 5 still to come. This Underworld-themed batch of installments is going to begin airing on Sunday night, and we’ll do our best to share some further updates, reviews, previews, and all of that every step of the way. Could season 6 end up being the show’s last? We suppose it’s possible, but we could imagine still the show eventually getting a season 7 or 8 that ties everything up. We do think that we’re probably beyond the halfway point in the show’s run, and there has already been so much stuff explored when it comes to fairy-tale mythology.
