‘Ink Master’ season 7 premiere: Our take on the first five minutes
The seventh season of Spike’s “Ink Master” is going to be premiering Tuesday night, and there are a few things about this season that you should know. The big one is that this year, is that we are going to have a crop of returning artists competing for the grand prize that includes everyone from Sarah Miller to Sausage to the notorious “Tattoo God” St. Marq from this past season. What may surprise some of you out there is the way in which many of them are going to be turning up.
In a video from Spike (which you can see over here), some of the base premise of the season is outlined: Every week a new artist is sent home, and a returning artist enters the competition. Do we like this twist? Not exactly. We feel like the returning artists already have enough of an advantage in that they’ve done this before, and now this preview is insinuating that there could be an artist who shows up several weeks into the season and has a much easier path to the very end. We wish they had just done a proper all-star season than this twist that gives a returning artist a huge advantage when they already have the advantage of playing the game once before.
The preview also shows what the newbie artists are going to be doing for their first flash challenge of the season: Sketch a woman in the buff. It’s tangentially connected to tattooing, but at least a few artists make it clear that this is not exactly something in their comfort zone. That being said though, if you don’t know human anatomy as an artist then you might as well pack up your shop now.
