‘Rizzoli & Isles’ season 7: Show boss on early series finale plans

Rizzoli and Isles

Tonight marks the return of “Rizzoli & Isles” to television, and even though we still have many episodes to go in season 6, that is certainly not stopping anyone from starting to ask questions about how the series is going to end. Season 7 is already filming, and it appears as though the writers are taking somewhat of a collaborative approach to figuring out the right way to tie the series together.

In speaking on this and some other major milestones ahead to TV Guide, executive producer Jan Nash had the following message to pass along:

“We do have an idea of what we’re aimed at … The best idea wins, so if somebody has a better idea, then that’s what we’ll do. We have our 100th episode in the middle of the season, so we want to do a big, flashy 100th episode. There are a lot of opportunities to do fun things this year.”

Nash also commented in the interview that the current cliffhanger, which revolves around Maura being taken, is not going to resolve itself until we get around to the start of season 7. The story will come to some sort of more-fitting conclusion by the time we get to the second episode of that season, and at that point the show will jump into something different for the final eleven episodes. She also figured that the show would be coming to a close based on the way in which TNT ordered only 13 episodes for season 7 instead of the standard 16 or 18, which helped to give everyone a little more time to prepare than usual.
