‘The Good Wife’ season 7 could lead to spin-off … but with who?
The news is now official that “The Good Wife” is ending its run on CBS this spring after seven years on the air … but does that mean that the series itself is over completely.
Speaking (per TVLine) during a conference call with reporters discussing the end of the series, creators Robert and Michelle King made it clear that there is still potential for a spin-off at some point down the road. Specifically, here is what Robert had to say:
“What would be fun is to find a way to spin off a [cast member] that wasn’t at the center, who we wish we had more time with. The show always centered around the Alicia character. What’s appealing would be pursuing a different ensemble.”
So who would be some great stars for a solo show? We can ultimately think of a few different people who would be appealing.
Elsbeth – Sure, Carrie Preston may have another TV gig coming up, but she always was one of our favorite characters whenever she turned up for a few episodes here and there.
Lucca Quinn – She’s new to the show this year, but we feel like we’ve seen enough of her to be interested in seeing what happens if she left Chicago and went somewhere else.
Kalinda – It’s unlikely, given that Archie Panjabi has a new role coming up on ABC’s “The Jury.” Yet, wouldn’t it be interesting to learn what the character has been up to?
Eli – In the event the Kings wanted to explore something more political, Alan Cumming is a great lead to revolve a show around.
Louis Canning – Is he a likable enough character for his own show? We don’t know, but there’d be potential to bring back current cast members here.
Ultimately, we do think that Elsbeth / Lucca / Kalinda are the top possibilities, mostly because someone like Diane or Eli would probably make it too much of the same show. You can’t just subtract the Florricks and then move forward.
