‘Chicago PD’ season 3, episode 13 review: The struggle with Ruzek and Burgess

Chicago PD -Chicago PD” has had some winning episodes this season, but there was a problem with Wednesday night’s “Hit Me”: Timing. It came on a day after a super-intense and truly great episode of “Chicago Fire,” and it had a pretty impossible task of following that up. At times, it struggled.

One of the biggest things that this particular episode had to contend with was simply not having Burgess and Ruzek together after all they’ve went through. He made it clear that he is not ready to move on, while at the same time she has to prepare herself now for the possibility of moving on elsewhere. Having their relationship fall apart brought a certain darkness to what was already a dark episode, given at one point Platt was forced to talk down a man from her past about to kill himself over an operation he had set up to take money via a group of police impersonators.

Resolving this case was the bulk of the action this week, and it led to some great moments for Lindsay and Halstead … including a little bit of undercover work at the start. Roman and Voight had their own part to play, and Intelligence operated about as seamlessly as we’ve seen them.

Other than seeing Ruzek and Burgess apart, the biggest issue with “Hit Me” was just that it was, for the most part, filler, and it’s coming at a time when we’re getting close to an “SVU” crossover and also the Battle of the Badges. There is some great stuff ahead, and while this case had its compelling moments, it doesn’t hold a candle to some others we’ve seen so far this season. Grade: C+.
