‘Billions’ renewed by Showtime for season 2, following just two episodes airing
Clearly, Showtime has aspirations for “Billions” to make plenty of paper for them in the years to come. Today the network officially renewed the Damian Lewis – Paul Giamatti series, even though only two episodes of the first season have aired.
Should this be a surprise to anyone? Not really, given that this is a series that has already shattered many expectations that the network had to it going in. The ratings for the first week generated more numbers across all platforms than any other in Showtime history … not that this should be a surprise. It’s been a while since the network launched an ambitious new series, with most of their major shows last year being in at least their second season. Therefore, more and more people have come around to the multiple ways of watching TV since “The Affair” or “Ray Donovan” first premiered.
Our main question with “Billions” is whether or not viewers will continue watching what we would label so far to be a fairly uneven experience. While the show has done many great things in the short amount of time it has been on the air, there is some question regarding whether or not Lewis’ Nicholas Brody has become anything other than a mustache-twirling villain. The more ambiguity that this show is able to create over the course of the coming weeks, the better off we feel we are going to be in the end.
We’ll be back over the weekend to preview the rest of this season further!
